Doug Sonnemann has been a Douglas County resident since 1982 having grown up in Sparks, Nevada. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural and resource economics from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and received a Master’s Degree from UNR in 1982. He has been employed in the assessor’s office since 1988 starting as a real property appraiser and rising to the position of senior appraiser. He is certified in both real and personal property appraisal. Doug was first elected assessor in 2002 and was sworn into office in January, 2003.
Doug served on the Gardnerville Town Board from 1991 to 1998, with two years as chairman. He was an active member of the Douglas County Engine Company, the volunteer fire department in Minden, for 24 years. He has been on the Garden Cemetery Board since 2006 and was recently appointed to the Senior
Services Advisory Council.
Doug and his wife Val make their home in Gardnerville and have two children. Cole is an artillery officer with the California National Guard and is currently deployed to Jordan. Kelly graduated from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, and will be assisting coach their softball team. Doug enjoys camping, gardening, and watching/participating in family activities.
