Karen EllisonOverview
This site is dedicated to providing information about and access to the services offered by our department. All of the services provided by the Recorder's Office are mandated by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 247. The Recorder's Office records all documents relating to real property in Douglas County, Nevada such as deeds, deeds of trust, liens, recorded maps, and easements, and records mining documents and marriage licenses.

Recorded documents are imaged as a permanent record and the original document is returned to the customer after processing. Filed documents are retained. All records are indexed by the names of the principal parties to the documents and by the year recorded. The records are open for public inspection and copies may be purchased at this office.

About the Recorder, Karen Ellison
I was appointed as the Douglas County Recorder by the Board of County Commissioners in 2008 following the retirement of my predecessor.  I was elected to my second term in November, 2014 to a four-year term that began in January, 2015.

I am a graduate of The University of Montana with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and I have more than 20 years of experience in the title industry identifying and researching legal issues to real property transactions.

Since taking office, one of my primary objectives has been to improve the service of the office through technology. Users of the office can now access digital images of the recorded real property documents online without having to use the film and microfiche in our office.

The process to move the documents online requires that film and microfiche be scanned and digitized, that the documents be indexed (labeled), and that the personal information be removed from each document. Today, digital images of recorded documents are available from 1980 to the present. This time period includes a decade (1997 to 2006) with more real property recordings than any other decade in the history of the County. During the next two years, my staff and I will prepare documents recorded from 1972 to 1979 to move online.

I am a voting member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, member of the Nevada Recorder’s Association, a member of the County Fiscal Officers Association, and a member of PRIA (Property Records Industry Association).

My husband and I have two children who were born and raised in Douglas County, both currently in college. Our family has been in Douglas County since 1992.
