Bureau of Indian Affairs and Bureau of Land Management Issue Finding of No Significant Impact, Decision Record for Painted Rock Mine
Minden, NV – On July 17, 2024, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)—in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office—issued a Finding of No Significant Impact and Decision Record for the Painted Rock Mine project Environmental Assessment.

The proposed project consists of an approximately 35-year phased development of an aggregate mine operation on an Indian-owned allotment as administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The proposed project is in Douglas County approximately seven miles northeast of Minden, Nevada.
According to the BIA, “Any person who may be adversely affected by this decision may appeal the decision to the Interior Board of Indian Appeals (IBIA), Office of Hearings and Appeals.” More information on protest and appeal opportunities can be found here.
The Painted Rock Mine is under the authority of the BIA. The BIA has sole authority to approve the Painted Rock Mine project. This land and project are not under the jurisdiction and control of the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners and the County has no authority to approve or condition this project in any way.
